How do I find a specific ancestor?
The easiest way to find a specific ancestor is to search the database. The search form allows you to enter information about the individual you’re looking for and presents you with a list of possible matches from the database. You can also try browsing through the surnames in the database if you don’t have enough information for a search.
How do I display an individual’s ancestors?
Once you locate the individual you’re looking for, you can display their ancestors by clicking on the Ancestors tab. This will show you a graphical display of both the paternal and maternal ancestors. There are a number of display formats for you to choose from (Standard, Compact, Box, Text, Ahnentafel, and Photos & History). Try clicking on the various options in the menu bar above the chart to see which one works best for you.
What if I want to see an individual’s descendants?
The tab marked Descendants can be used to display the descendants of an individual. There are a few different display formats available. You can switch between the Standard and Register formats using the links in the menu bar. Once the descendants are displayed, you can click on the icon that follows each descendant’s name to graphically display the descendancy from the main individual to that descendant.
Is there a way to tell how two individuals are related?
Yes, the Relationship tab will show a graphic display of all the people between two relatives. To use this function, locate the first individual and then press the Relationship tab. Then use the find button to locate the second person to be displayed. Once you have the two people selected click the calculate button to display their relationship.
The Timeline function looks interesting, what is it?
If you click on the Timeline tab, a timeline will be displayed for the individual. You can add or delete people from the display by using the search and refresh tools. The timeline shows important events in history that occurred during the life of the selected individual or group of individuals.
If I see a mistake in the information presented can I correct it?
The suggestion tab allows you to send corrections, updates, comments or any other information to the database administrator. Information indentifying the individual you are referencing is automatically attached to the message when you make a suggestion using the Suggestion tab. The database administrator will take your suggestion and add it to the database during the next web update cycle.
Is there a way to print the display without all the headers and icons?
Yes, just click on the Print link located above the control tabs. A format that is simplified for printing is presented and you can use the print function of you browser to print the page.
